Inertial Music is thrilled to announce the addition of Mitochondrial Sun, the brainchild of Niklas Sundin, former guitarist of Grammy-winning Swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity, to its roster. The highly anticipated new album, Machine Dialectics, is set for release on February 21, 2025.
Following the orchestral grandeur of the debut album and the intense industrial blastbeat energy of Sju Pulsarer, Sundin’s third offering under the Mitochondrial Sun moniker explores uncharted territory. Machine Dialectics is a sparse, minimalistic journey through ten experimental and playful compositions. Featuring earworm melodies and warm, vintage-sounding synths, the album evokes a sense of nostalgia and wonder, masterfully crafted with Anders Lagerfors’ analog expertise at Nacksving Studios.
Niklas Sundin shares insight into the creative direction of the album:
"With the new album, I wanted to get away from the overtly cinematic and epic soundscapes of the earlier releases and instead explore more low-fi territories. Most of the songs consist of just a handful of elements, and there's a sense of improvisation and unpredictability throughout, as if we're hearing the music come to life in real-time. There's a certain naivety to the melodies, and in a way Machine Dialectics is presenting a 'magical' childhood idea of space exploration – simple, adventurous, and blissfully unconcerned with cosmic cataclysms and existential risks. The music is still instrumental, and as usual, I prefer to only hint at concepts and ideas and leave it up to the listener to interpret the work and fill in the blanks with whatever their own imagination can conjure."
In keeping with the cohesive nature of the project, Sundin emphasizes that Machine Dialectics is best experienced in its entirety. The album is designed as a continuous journey, with each track acting as a chapter in a larger story.
